Our client is a $20 billion global construction company.  They have engaged us to help them find a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) with construction experience, in Corpus Christi.
SUMMARY:
This role will function as the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP), performing safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety enforcement.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES:
  • The SSHO shall be at the work site at all times that the work present the hazards associated with their professional expertise is being performed, to perform safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety enforcement.
  • Perform safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety enforcement
  • Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log which includes area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections. Attach safety inspection logs to the Contractors' daily quality control report.
  • Conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports. Maintain the OSHA Form 300 and Daily Production reports for prime and sub-contractors.
  • Maintain applicable safety reference material on the job site.
  • Attend the pre-construction conference, pre-work meetings including preparatory inspection meeting, and periodic in-progress meetings.
  • Implement and enforce accepted APPS and AHAs.
  • Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution. Post a list of unresolved safety and health deficiencies on the safety bulletin board.
  • Ensure sub-contractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
  • Ensure an approved "Contractor Electrical Energized Work Permit" prior to starting any activity on energized electrical systems.
  • Maintain a list of hazardous chemicals on site and their material safety data sheets.
  • Perform safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety enforcement for the project.
  • Be on-site as needed whenever work or testing is being performed.
  • Conduct and document safety inspections.
  • Shall be responsible for enforcing and implementing the Safety and Health Program in accordance with the accepted APP.
  • Shall have no other duties other than safety and occupational health management, inspections, and enforcement on this contract.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Safety Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years construction industry safety experience without a CSP, or 3 years experience with a CSP
  • Experience with safety program development, accident investigations, subcontractor management, and Roadway SSHO projects
  • Must have completed the 10-hour OSHA Construction safety class or an equivalent course applicable to the work to be performed and given by qualified instructors. Such training shall have been within the last three (3) years.
  • Willingness to be on-duty at all times when work is being performed
  • Heavy civil project experience
  • Knowledge and experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Mature and effective presenter and communicator, capable of interacting with senior level executives
  • Strong analytic, organizational and interpersonal skills
