SUMMARY:
We are currently looking for a Site Safety and Health Officer to join our team. Our client is developing a complex build of the Parallel Thimble Shoals Tunnel in Virginia Beach, VA.  This design and build project includes a full array of Health and Safety subject matter as well as potential interfacing with our environmental team.
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES: 
  • Work under the direction of our Site Health & Safety Manager, ensuring compliance and implementation of our ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 compliant programs
  • Conducting daily inspections, determining deficiencies and developing corrective measures, working as mentor with site supervision, and assisting in managing a complex safety program
  • Organizational skills compatible with assisting with records keeping, training, maintaining required safety supplies are necessary
  • Being well versed in Occupational Safety and Health subject matter to include but not be limited OSHA, VOSH, VDOT rules and regulations
  • Ensure proper use of protective equipment, use monitoring instruments and interpret results; identify health and safety hazards and recommend corrective actions; investigate injuries, illnesses and incidents; implement emergency procedures; conduct safety briefings and on-site staff training
  • Understand site specific Health and Safety Plan and means for developing compliance with both CTJV employees and subcontractors.  Significant emphasis will be placed on AHA/JHA development and its administration
  • Significant portions of work will require work over and/or near water and Navy/Coast Guard Experience would be considered a plus
  • Perform various other tasks as assigned
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma required
  • Associates degree or Technical degree from an accredited institution preferred with a focus in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Health Physics, Science, Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of applicable experience.
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Safety related field experience in heavy construction/civil
  • The selected individual will be required to have both 30 hour OSHA Construction outreach training and 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification or be able to obtain the certifications in a timely manner
  • First Aid/CPR/AED training preferred but not required
  • Valid Driver’s License required
