Safety Engineer

Our client is a worldwide leader in civil construction. We have been engaged to conduct a search for a Safety Engineer working in the greater New York City area.  

The Safety Engineer will establish and implement a safety program on a large construction project. The Project Manager, Superintendents and Engineers work with the Safety Engineer to perform field inspections, implement safety procedures, ensure compliance and manage the subcontractors.  Candidates must either have prior acceptance as a Site Safety Engineer for MTA or Universal Site Safety Engineer BEDC approval.  This is a hands-on position with a diverse set of responsibilities to include:
 
  • Development of job specific safety procedures, and implementation of procedures in the field (self-performed and subcontractor’s)
  • Take all corrective actions necessary to eliminate hazards and prevent recurrence
  • Responsible for all aspects regarding safety on the project
  • Will have the authority to take prompt action as necessary to ensure work sites are maintained and work is performed in compliance with the safety requirements of the contract as well as applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.
  • Performs daily site safety inspections; identify, document and correct any health and safety deficiencies, and to enforce the requirements of the Environmental, Health & Safety Program and Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Ensures that safety meetings are held with all employees, including subcontractors
  • Conducts accident and near miss investigations
  • Prepares and administers the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Works well in groups
  • Able to write and review JHA’s
  • Perform accident investigations

Qualifications:
  
New York City Transit 
  • A (40) hour New York City Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager course.
  • A (30) hour OSHA certification within the past (5) years.
  • New York City Transit Track Training.
  • New York State Department of Labor Asbestos License.
  • A C-3 competent person of De-Leading Steel Structures.
  • American Society of Safety Engineers certificate (ASSE).
  • New York City Department of Buildings 32 hour Supported Scaffold Erector Training.
  • (90) day “Right of Way” experience working under New York City Transit flagging.
  • (5) years of safety experience.
 
NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority
 
  • Minimum of (3) years of Heavy Civil Construction.
  • A (30) hour OSHA certification within the past (5) years.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED training.
  • Metro North Railroad Training.
 
NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority Bridge and Tunnel Authority
 
  • A (40) hour New York City Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager course.
  • A (30) hour OSHA certification within the past (5) years.
  • New York City Department of Labor Asbestos License.
  • A C-3 competent person of De-Leading Steel Structures.
  • American Society of Safety Engineers certificate (ASSE).
  • New York City Department of Buildings 32 Hour Supported Scaffold Erector Training.
