SUMMARY:

This role will focus primarily in three areas of income tax:  tax planning, US GAAP tax accounting, and international tax compliance.  In addition, this individual should be familiar with transactional concepts relating to mergers and acquisitions. The person will have opportunities for exposure to all levels of corporate management and external advisers..
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES:
  • Manages, deploys, maintains and continually optimizes the Company's Federal, State and International Tax Provision
  • Manages other aspects of the tax accounting and reporting function (FAS 109, FIN 18)
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of tax basis balance sheets
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating impacts of tax law changes.
  • Develop and maintain critical relationships between Tax, Controllers and Legal to ensure Tax has a well-informed view of the business operations
  • Assists in development and implementation of strategic initiatives to reduce taxes in a time of changing tax legislation in the US and Canada.
  • Assists with international and federal tax aspects of acquisitions, including cross-border reorganizations and tax due diligence.
  • Participates in review of transfer pricing documentation and valuations relating to planning transactions to manage tax risks.
  • Assists with review of quarterly and annual tax provisions.
  • Assists with the tax aspects of US GAAP purchase accounting process for international acquisitions.
  • Assists in driving efficiencies in the tax provision processes.
  • Coordinates preparation of federal, state, local and special tax returns by collecting, analyzing, and formatting financial information.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local requirements by studying regulations; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; communicating with attorneys and tax specialists to ensure timely tax reporting requirements.
  • Prepares financial statements, reports, and records by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
  • Establishes a thorough understanding of compliance and reporting systems and procedures in the tax department while working to continually refine and improve procedures to gain operating efficiencies.
  • Assists in preparation and review of US federal income tax return including Forms 1120, 1120F, 1065 and others. Assists with tax IRS audit.  This includes working with the field auditors, positioning to minimize any exposure.
  • Ensures necessary controls are in place to complete timely and accurate filings.
  • Works with HR and Finance on payroll related tax issues.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting necessary
  • MS or MBA in Tax preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of domestic corporate tax experience
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and reporting requirements
  • Significant tax compliance and FAS 109 experience
  • Experience covering complex tax issues in a real-time environment
  • Knowledge and experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ADP
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytic, organizational and interpersonal skills
