Our client, a $20 billion civil construction firm has engaged us to help find an Environment Health & Safety Manager for the Chesapeake Bay tunnel project in Virginia.

SUMMARY:
As the Project Environment Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager, you will lead all aspects of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) for the project.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide technical guidance to the project team to ensure compliance with all EH&S policies
  • Administer company drug and alcohol program
  • Serve as a safety technical adviser/guidance to project teams during pre-construction, construction and project closeouts
  • Site inspections
  • Weekly, monthly and yearly safety corporate reporting
  • Accident/incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • OSHA 10 and 30 and other safety-related trainers
  • Conduct and participate in safety audits
  • Inventory and order safety supplies and materials as needed
  • Hire and develop personnel as needed
  • Oversee the managing of claims, assisting in decision making and settlement if necessary
  • Attend pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and other required meetings
  • Liaise with project stakeholders
  • Liaise with governing agencies
  • Support published corporate policies
  • Perform additional assignments per management’s direction
  • Lead and supervise the EH&S Staff
  • EH&S program development and implementation
  • Staff and contractor training needs analysis and development
  • JHA development and review
 REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field from an accredited institution and 7-10 years safety management experience and/or training in the construction industry
  • Construction safety, current federal, state and provincial safety requirements experience required
  • Tunnel construction experience
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
